I've been asked a question that I cannot answer. Would the P3 work with a
KWM2 or 75S-1? If so, he'll buy one. Phil,
I do not recall those transceivers having an IF Output. If the KWM2 or 75S-1 is modified to provide an IF output, then the answer is yes the P3 will provide a panadapter function centered around the IF. The P3 will not display the operating frequency because that information is not available. 73, Don W3FPR On 2/1/2012 9:28 AM, Phil LaMarche wrote: > I've been asked a question that I cannot answer. I don't think so either, but I'm thinking it should be easy to tap off the 455 khz signal path and bring it out to a BNC or RCA connector. Tony and all:
I agree it should be easy to tap off the IF but I suspect that will be a relatively high impedance point and will require a source follower (cathode follower) circuit to drive the coax without dragging down the signal. I seem to remember a QST article on adding a pan adapter to the KWM2 but that was some time ago. One trick people used to use was to wrap a wire around the mixer tube.
That picks up enough signal for the panadapter without having to tap into the circuitry , which would likely require an IF re-alignment. Gee, this takes me back - in the 50s you could pick off enough signal to
drive the Heath Q-multiplier by wrapping a couple of turns of insulated wire around a pin on the mixer tube. Maybe the plate? 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 and arcluster.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 On 2/1/2012 2:44 PM, Fred Townsend wrote: > Tony and all: > I agree it should be easy to tap off the IF but I suspect that will be a > relatively high impedance point and will require a source follower (cathode > follower) circuit to drive the coax without dragging down the signal. > I seem to remember a QST article on adding a pan adapter to the KWM2 but > that was some time ago. > Fred, AE6QL > > -----Original Message----- > From: [hidden email] > [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Tony Estep > Sent: Wednesday, February 01, 2012 7:37 AM > To: Elecraft > Subject: Re: [Elecraft] P3 > > On Wed, Feb 1, 2012 at 9:14 AM, Don Wilhelm<[hidden email]> wrote: >> I do not recall those transceivers having an IF Output.... > I don't think so either, but I'm thinking it should be easy to tap off the > 455 khz signal path and bring it out to a BNC or RCA connector. > > Tony KT0NY > > > > > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
