My P3 works well, however sometimes (like right now) it will make little
clicking noises as if a relay is turning on and off, and concurrently
the display will jump up and down.

Is it perhaps gain reduction caused by extremely strong signals in the
IF passband?  The scale does not change.  Is this normal operation?

I get just the same, I believe it is the built in preamp clicking in and
out. However, it does seem to do it more often that it used to, but that
could be my imagination!
