PRE/ATT selection problems - K2

DaveVK
Hi,

I have a gradually worsening problem on my K2 when I try to select
PREamp,  ATT, or normal.  The symptoms are the relay clicks (normally)
but on the PRE-ON and ATT positions I get attenuation levels on RX.  In
Normal mode I get a very deaf K2.  Sometimes the only fix is to
repeatedly press the PRE button until things return to normal, or I
change bands and return to the band I was operating.

I suspect a dud relay.  My schematics packed away somewhere.  Could
someone advise which one (or ones) would be the culprit.

Dave,

The two relays are K16 and K17.  Download the manual from the Elecraft
website and you can view the schematics without having the paper copy handy.

Check the soldering carefully - a bad connection can produce the
symptoms you describe.  Relay failures do occur, but they are rare
unless physically damaged.  Except for ones that were burned by a
soldering iron, I have found only 2 relay failures in all the K2s that I
have serviced over the years.
