PROLIFIC OR FTDI

Richard Thorpe
How do we know which USB to RS232 converter we have.  Since going to an intel Mac the computer keeps dropping the radio.  My converter cable was purchased from Elecraft along with my K3 in November 2009. On the elecraft download page the only driver available for the Mac is for the Prolific chipset. What does this all mean?

Given the time frame, your KUSB is probably Prolific.  You can
confirm that in the OS-X "System Profiler" (Apple | About This
Mac | More Info).  In system Profiler, select Hardware | USB
then highlight the KUSB.  The extended detail will provide the
"Vendor ID" and "Manufacturer" among other information.
