Plug & Play Ready K2

Gary Hvizdak
There's a new webpage on our "unpcbs" website entitled "Bare K2 Plug &
Play Ready One-Time Upgrade Parts List".  This mouthful of a page has an
advance release of what will eventually evolve into our "Rework
Eliminators(TM) Companion Guide" which will be released later this year.

This upgrade parts information will likely to be of interest to many
existing and all future K2 owners.  The two main features on this new
webpage are:

1)  A detailed photo of Ken's newer K2 #5048.  It is a "Plug & Play Ready"
bare K2.  In fact, it is "so ready" for the installation of the five PCB
mounted options, that the simple task of removing and reinstalling the
cover is a good deal of the total work required to install them!  Other
than that, removing the masking tape and mounting the rear I/O panel
connectors is the most difficult task.

2)  A color-coded and cross-referenced table showing which parts are
required to perform this upgrade to an existing bare K2 (or to build a new
K2 using this approach).  The color-coded cross-referencing makes it easy
to determine exactly which parts you will need for your K2's particular
mix of existing options.  Even for a bare K2 this will only cost you
$22.98 (plus shipping) from Elecraft.

AFTER THIS ONE-TIME UPGRADE HAS BEEN PERFORMED, YOU WILL NEVER AGAIN
NEED TO REMOVE THE LOWER REAR I/O PANEL / HEATSINK AGAIN FOR THE PURPOSE
OF ADDING AN OPTION!

MORE INTERESTINGLY THOUGH, THIS APPROACH HAS DEFINITELY GOT TO BE THE
WAY TO GO FOR NEW K2 BUILDS!  BUILDERS-FOR-HIRE PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THIS
FEATURE, AND CONSIDER OFFERING THIS SERVICE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.

There's still more that will be added to this newest webpage.  In the
coming weeks we will include a handy order form which consolidates the
parts (such as screws and lock washers) that are common to multiple
options.

To learn lots more, please visit the "Resources" sub-directory page on
our website at http://home.cfl.rr.com/garyhvizdak/KI4GGX/unpcbs/Resources/
then click on the K2 image or its accompanying text link.

73,
Gary, KI4GGX
K2 #4067
