Point me to the note for sending CW when in SSB mode.

Jack Colson
I thought I had printed it out but can not find this neat feature.  Would someone point me to it?
73 and thank you,

Re: Point me to the note for sending CW when in SSB mode.

Mike K2MK
Hi Jack,

I like to keep the K3 manual on my computer and then search in the PDF file for phrases. Searching for CW in SSB brought me to the top of page 55:

CONFIG:CW WGHT
tap button 1 and you'll see CW+SSB
tap button 1 again and you'll see CW-SSB

73,
Mike, K2MK

YEEE HAA!

Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz)
The UPS tracker changed about an hour ago..

<rebel yell>  YEEE HAAA!  </rebel yell>

The shipment arrived about 120 miles east of me today... It will make it to the RDU area tonight.. and be out for delivery tomorrow.

Makes me wonder if UPS shipped it cross country on truck, or if it went by rail......

KK4QDZ - Now with Extra Class Priv's, but no HF rig...

We're both waiting an extra day Bill.
USPS says my KX3 will be available for pickup today, went to PO and asked; I
was told to come back tomorrow and check. It's getting closer and closer ;-)

Grant Youngman
I remember when I ordered my SB-102. I was stationed at Sub Base Pearl Harbor. There was no tracking in those days --- but I could see packages in the base Post Office ready for delivery through a window. Every day --- I'd stop by and look ... hoping I'd see that big Heathkit box.

Wish I still had it.  Not somebody else's, but the one I built!  When it finally arrived (took 3 weeks) I thought I'd died and gone to heaven .... :)

In reply to this post by Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz)
As a former railroad company officer, I can tell you that UPS uses the nation's rail system very heavily for piggyback (trailer on flat car, or TOFC) shipments that are longer than one or two day's run in a truck. The "break-even" distance (rail and truck costs equal) varies depending on fuel costs and specific locale, but in general, if it's traveling more than 1,000 miles it will do most of that journey by rail. The major railroads all run UPS-only trains, and they have about the highest priority of any traffic on the line, equal priority for use of the main line with Amtrak, and sometimes higher.

One thing to remember, is that unfortunately this option does NOT work if you are
using a footswitch (or a sequencer triggered by a footswitch).  I still don't
understand why it can't be included in the firmware as an option even if you key the
TX with a footswitch, but that is the way it is.   So, if that is they way you also
operate, you have to make a MACRO that will automatically change to operate split and
move the transmit frequency for you.   I did this once, but it seemed to have
disappeared with a software update :-(  GL and VY 73, Lance

The rig can not tell if you want to transmit SSB or CW if you assert
PTT before the key closes and because of settling time for the various
oscillators/synthesizers/offsets can't change from SSB to CW while in
transmit.  If one were to change from SSB to CW with every key closure
(which is what would happen if one permitted CW with PTT in SSB, the
CW would be very "whoopy".

Well you could pug the foot switch into the straight key jack, but if
you did, that would be sending QLF or QRF, wouldn't it?  ;o)

When I first got licensed in 1976, the Oklahoma City Hamfest had a
contest called the QLF contest.  They had a wooden straight key about
3 or 4 feet long connected to an oscillator on which participants
would send CW with their left foot.  Having your shoe on was
optional.

The JB Hunt company is also a major user of rail to move freight.
I've often seen a mile of them on the rails.

I'd like to see more use of rail transportation by rail to cut down
on the number of overloaded 18 wheelers tearing up our roads.  Here
in TX they have passed legislation allowing 100,000 lb loads of wheat
on the I-45 corridor to Houston.  If it's legal to haul 100,000 lbs,
they will haul 150,000 lbs with 54 foot long trailers.

Sorry about the OT remarks ;o(
