Hello,
On Friday, October 6th from 19:00 UTC until 23:59 UTC or so look for Polar
Bears on the air! The PB's will hike, drive etc to the top of the local
terrain and operate their QRP rigs. We call this a Polar Bear Moonlight
Madness Event (PBMME) or the Polar Bear Run. We do this only during or near
a full moon every month from October to March. We presently have 37 Polar
Bears in over six states and two countries so look for the USA and Canadian
PBs on the air this Friday!
This will be the Hunters Full Moon. Check out the EPA QRP Club web page at
www.n3epa.org for more details and Polar Bear calls that will be out on the
6th.
Every Polar Bear has a PB# so ask for his number too. This isn't a contest,
but just a FUN event. It's a nice way to get to know other hams that go out
and operate from the outdoors.
If you want to bag a bear, look around the QRP frequencies of 3.560, 7.040,
10.106, 14.060 and 21.060 MHz.
If you are the first to work Ed de WA3WSJ and he send you a very nice Two
Dollar Canadian Polar Bear Coin! You can look at the coin on his Polar Bear
Website at
http://www.wa3wsj.com/files/PolarBear2006.html . Be sure to look
in the scrolling picture header at the top of the page.
I will be operating from the Pulpit Rock area on the Appalachian Trail near
Hamburg, PA. I am closing in on 700 QSO's from the AT, I have a total of 686
QSO's from the AT.
Only need a few more states from the AT for WAS. I will be looking for AZ,
HI, MT, ND, NM, OR and SD.
I need to work someone on the Appalachian trail in MA and ME for the AT to
AT Award.
Hope to work some people from the list.
72 and Thanks,
Ron Polityka
