When doing the power calibration for the transverter, there is no mention in the manual of attaching any form of (dummy) load. Is this not necessary due to the low power level? Wouldn't a specific impedance be necessary to accuratly calibrate?
I'm not using a trasverter right now, but have run the calibration and would like to know the correct way of presenting a load if needed. Thanks, Jim - W6VAR |

There is mention of attaching a dummy load to the KXV3 Transverter Out in
the K3 Utility's Tx Gain Calibration wizard, and the K3 Utility Help text for this wizard page says "Some versions of the K3 Owner's Manual do not describe the dummy load requirement for Milliwatt calibration. This will be corrected in subsequent versions of the K3 Owner's Manual." Could I have damaged my unit by running it per the manual with no load?

Also, what is the wizard? I don't recall it ever being mentioned in the manual?

I don't think so. But the calibration is not valid.

The new K3 Utility (1.1.12.22) adds the capability to automate the
Transmitter Gain Calibration process. The software development term used for the multi-page step-by-step dialog is a "wizard". It's just a sequence of pages that guides you through a multi-step process. If you want to try it, install the current K3 Utility version from Elecraft's web site and look for the "Calibrate Transmitter Gain" button on the Configuration tab. One of those "wizard pages" tells you to connect a dummy load to the KXV3 transverter out connector before performing milliwatt calibration. There are a couple of bugs in the 12/22 version that can be circumvented by using the K3 Config menu to your K3 in Tech Mode ON and KAT3 BYP before starting the calibration. I've just finished building a version of the code that fixes these bugs that's being released to the Field Test team this evening. 73 de Dick, K6KR -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Jim - W6VAR Sent: Friday, December 26, 2008 3:52 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Power Calibration - Transverter Also, what is the wizard?
