Power problems with K2/00762

Andrew Kiddle
Hi Elecraft

I'm trying to get the Auto ATU going again after  static zapp (at least that's what I suspect happened).  I've replaced the ATU PIC and once again it checks out with the tests on p13 of the manual.  I've also successfully set C55 to give an indication of 000.

When I go on to attempt the power calibration, I run into problems.  I set the power control for 5 watts but when I hit TUNE I see 10 to 12 watts on the power meter (external with 50 ohm dummy load) for one or two seconds, then the power is cut off.

All suggestions gratefully received!

Yours

Andrew, G4HVC

Andrew,

Did you replace the 2 1N5711 diodes in the wattmeter section?  Those are the
most likely components to be zapped with a surge. and if the wattmeter does
not properly indicate forward power, the K2 will attempt to transmit at full
power no matter where you set the power control.
