Problem with first test KX1

jrb-3
Hello All

I'm on Page 28 of the manual. D1 lights and the LED is OK. However
when I start to do voltage checks,  I get  results that are nothing
close to the manual. Now granted, I'm using a Radio Shack DMM (!)
which is flaky and inconsistent, but when I get good contacts it
shows that the supply voltage at both ends of D2 is OK. The other
readings on D2 and U1 bear no relationship to normal. For example on
U1 pin 1 I get no voltage.

Could be the DMM of course, (I've sent away for a Fluke), or my lack
of expertise, but I'm stopping until I get this resolved.

Should I be taking these readings from the top or bottom of the PCB -
I've tried both ways.  By the way, which is pin 6 on U3?

All solder connections look good.

TIA,

Jeff KG6ZVT

RE: Problem with first test KX1

Dan Barker
Looking at the top of the board with the lettering rightside up (U3 on the
right side, notch to it's left), the pins of U3 are:

8765
1234

so pin 6 is the third pin from the left on the top.

I have no comments on the RS DMM other than try the leads both ways (reverse
red and black) and use whichever (top or bottom of board) is easiest to get
to.
