Problems with HRD, Windows 7 and the old Serial converter cable using the PROLIFIC chip set

Mike Dillon
I was using Ham Radio Deluxe with the older KUSB cable running XP.
Everything worked fine for several years. My old PC died and I bought a
new laptop with the 64 bit I3 processor running Windows 7 Home Addition
Premium. I loaded HRD and also updated the Prolific Drivers from their
web site. HRD will run for a short time then freezes up with what
appears to be a USB port error. So far the only way out is to be a
restart. I can run the K3 Utility and have downloaded the latest updates
with no problem. Anyone have a suggestion for a fix to my HRD problem?

I have a similar problem with my "old" Prolific chip based usb/serial
cable. It worked fine on my XP computer. The driver loads without issue
on my new Windows 7 computer and creates a virtual serial port and
recognizes and installs the adapter when I plug it in,  but in my case,
I am unable to connect to the K3 utility (haven't tried anything else).
I have not been able to resolve the issue with the latest drivers from
Prolific or from the driver on the Elecraft download page. I have been
using an old XP laptop to configure and do firmware upgrades.
