Proposed New Product

N5GE
All,

By using the Config:2TONE function, one can tune USB or LSB output using a
scope.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a small scope for tuning and observing the output
wave shapes of the K3 TX.  It seems to me this could be done with a sensor that
connects to the P3 and then uses an add-in module to display the RF envelope on
the P3 display.

I have a Kenwood SM-230 here, but it is heavy and takes up a lot of room in the
shack.

Any comments?

Tom,

The P3 can monitor the K3 IF spectrum right now.
A spectral display is often more meaningful than an envelope display on
an oscilloscope.  For instance, it may be hard to determine just when
the waveshape of the envelope begins to flatten, with a spectral
display, it is easy to see when spikes appear that are other than the
tones themselves.
I would rely on a spectrum display more than a 'scope display for 2 tone
testing.

Yes, it is not monitoring the actual transmit frequency, but the IF
signal.  One could use a tap on the transmission line as well as
attenuators to bring the output signal down to the point where it could
be sampled by the P3 - the P3 input frequency can be changed to most
anywhere in the RF Spectrum.

Provisions have been made for this "future feature" already. Note the empty
"sensor" cutout on the back of the P3...

Re: P3 info ?

Yes, by all means, order it, you will not be sorry!

I bought mine about a year ago... it makes dxing so much easier now.  I bought mine factory assembled, and it was easy to hook up to the K3.

I understand the kit goes together very quickly and with ease.

As far as a technical review, this reflector has a lot of information on the P3.
