QRPTTF 2005 - WB3AAL

WB3AAL
Hello,

I plan on operating the QRPTTF 2005 from a railroad on the Appalachian
Trail today. The weather forecast is rain and a chance of thunderstorms so I
am not sure how long I will be out on the trail.

The Reading and Northern RR Co. runs on the old Reading RR lines.
Unfortunately the Reading Northern RR crosses the Appalachian Trail in the
valley between two steep mountains. I am going to try to work from this
location using my K1 and the VBWFPA vertical by WA3WSJ.

Hello,

The wx channel showed no rain before I went out, but when I got there the
rain was heavy. The wx conditions did not allow me to put the VBWFPA antenna
up so I had to use the Hustler mobile antenna. I made a total of 3 QSO's all
on 20 meters. Band conditions and location between the mountains made
operation poor.

QRPTTF 2005 - K7LOG

Rick Commo
I made a grand total of 3 contacts - all on 20M - all in the same state.
The QTH was home.  The bands of interest all seemed pretty punk.  Signals
were weak and watery.

I was tempted to take my N gauge train station; blow the dust off of it and
put it on top of the K2.  But that seemed a little too bogus! ;-)

But it gave me something to do since I am recuperating from getting a new
hip put in on Tuesday.

The antenna is my R7000 with the feedline rerouted from the shack to my
temporary lash-up in the dining room.  Hopefully I will get in some more CW
practice before Field Day.

73s,
-rick, K7LOG
