QSO with KI4DGH

Joe Ford
Fellow Elecrafters:

Last night I was doing some of the never ending administrative tasks
around the shack here and my K2 was sitting on 7045 khz when Chuck,
KI4DGH came on calling CQ. I recognized his call from one I had seen
here on the reflector. We had a nice K2 to K2 QSO, cut short when my
dog, Heidi began scratching on my leg asking to go outside.

The reason I bring this up, Chuck has only been a ham for about 14
months. In that short period he has built both a KX1 and a K2 and he has
learned the code pretty well. A lot of us old timers think we are the
only ones doing CW. Guys like Chuck are proving us wrong.

Well I know I'm not the only one who has met people new to ham radio
with an interest in CW, QRP and building good radios. But I was
impressed with Chuck's accomplishments and thought them worthy of note.

Also, Elecraft deserves a lot credit for their great kits which attract
new and old alike.

Okay, that's enough of that!

73,
Joe

Joe et al,

There are a bunch of new hams, and some longer in the hobby, all learning CW
and working on increasing their speed over at the QRS-CW Yahoo Group. See
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/QRS-CW/ for details.

Along with various CW discussions, the group is used to make skeds for
practicing CW. If anyone wants to help out some budding CW ops, and are
willing to QRS, check out the group and offer to schedule some contacts.
