I too have proved that the design does not have an idiot diode ! Unlike other MFJ
units, the schematic for this was not available (may be it is now..), so repair took me a while.

I find the 259 useful. When not in various test equipment modes, I use it as a "quiet tuner" - with various manual transmatches, using an  A/B switch with the rig.
For this, it is easier to set-up and adjust than my noise bridge arrangement.
