Huh? You saying they are not compatible physically?
The 8 pin socket (its a free socket, not a fixed plug) on my Heil, fits the front plug of the K3. What's the correct name for these mic connectors? Jim,
Eric has already provided the answer that the Elecraft microphone pinout is compatible with Kenwood dynamic mics. Those Kenwood wired mics that have an internal preamp will likely *not* work. I do not have any information about your particular cables, but... One must know the connection information for any particular microphone or cable that you intend to use - I need to be certain that the transceiver will not destroy the microphone nor will the microphone damage the transceiver - one should not pick up just any old mic and plug it in without checking first. If you have a Kenwood mic, all that is necessary is to check for a connection at the mic plug pins 5 and 6 - if there is *no* connection to these pins, it should work with the K3. The K3 is Kenwood *compatible*, but not Kenwood *identical*. G4WPW has compiled a lot of good information about many, many microphones which can be found at http://www.qsl.net/g4wpw/date.html, or use Google and other search engines to seek the information you need. We here on this reflector have information related to the Elecraft equipment, but there are so many microphones out there with different characteristics that it is unreasonable to expect that we here on this reflector will be able to provide accurate information about any particular microphone (unless you are asking us to do the research for you - and that is just not reasonable IMHO). 73, Don W3FPR WS6X wrote: > ------------------------------ > > Original Message: 35 > Date: Tue, 12 Feb 2008 22:18:14 +0000 > From: Charles Harpole <[hidden email]> > Subject: [Elecraft] #309 first issues > > > -Front mic socket not compatible with any other mfg. that I can find. > > > > I was wondering if anyone else had this experience -- figured it was just a > dud with my K3. Don,
Thank you for the really neato URL. At last, after ignorant flames, comes W3FPR's knowledgable statement about the now-famous pins 5 and 6. Thank you, Don, for showing the facts, not the flames. 73,Charles [hidden email] > Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2008 09:55:12 -0500> From: [hidden email]> To: [hidden email]> Subject: Re: [Elecraft] RE: Elecraft Digest, Vol 46, Issue 21> CC: [hidden email]> > Jim,> > Eric has already provided the answer that the Elecraft microphone pinout > is compatible with Kenwood dynamic mics.
