I am a drummer and pretty much tone deaf (When I sing I'm told I can change keys in the middle of a note!). If I could get within 10 or 20 Hz of a note, I'd be singing on American Idol. "Just zero beat to match the note" does nothing for me. The Autospot feature is a God send for many like myself. <LOL> For those of us who are not tone-deaf -- I'm musically inclined
myself -- the extremes that this disability can go to can be almost incomprehensible at first. My wife is completely tone-deaf, so I finally got to learn about it. Still amazes me. Because to her music is subjectively indistinguishable from noise, she has learned to tune out ambient music (like in a store or restaurant) to the point where she doesn't even hear it. I used to say things to her like, "How can you POSSIBLY not hear that?" I don't any more. It's just encoded in the genes, one way or the other -- perfect pitch, no pitch at all, various points in between. :-) Ain't nothin' any of us can do about it. :-) Bill W5WVO ----- Original Message ----- From: "Terry Schieler" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Wednesday, May 14, 2008 11:28 AM Subject: [Elecraft] RE: Elecraft Digest, Vol 49, Issue 30 > Drew, AF2Z wrote: > > " Yes, it is pretty easy to get within 10 or 20 hz by ear." > > My dad was an entertainer and had perfect pitch.
