I have tried a number of the programs but I am currently running the Marote (latest version) on my Red Hat Linux system. It seems to be working just fine and I enjoy being able to do my ham stuff in linux (as opposed to having to join the "dark side" folks from Redmond). Also run GMFSK with my SignaLink SL-1. Good luck and enjoy your K2.

Hi Ken.
My pooter doesn't have any serial ports so I use USB/serial adaptors. Have you found any Linux (Fedora Core 3 but it shouldn't matter which distro) drivers for there adaptors? You shouldn't need any special drivers. I have used a USB/Serial adaptor
with Mandrake without any problems. I can't remember the details but you simply use /dev/USBtty0 or whatever port you are on. Do a google and you will find the details; it's quite straight forward. I would use Linux more for ham radio if there were more ham programmes. I use if for everything else. But there is a lack of good logging software and something like DxAtlas. Jlog is quite good, but doesn't do much in the way of QSL management, label printing etc.. I tried running DxAtlas, HamCap etc under Win4Lin but they all fell over on graphics issues on my laptop. Much depends on the specific adaptors you got: I have a Xircom and a Prolific, the first is only good for the data interface (hamlib/xlog) because toggling RTS/DTR is unreliable while the latter works flawlessly under all circumstances (system: Debian Sarge, kernel 2.6.11.6). If you're using RTS/DTR for PTT, another option is to simply use VOX. Since I don't have a serial port in the K2 yet I've been using vox with gmfsk on my gentoo box with no problems. So if you have only a Xircom there's still hope! Mike AB3AP _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Also, in the case of my rig (IC-736 for digimodes, I'm only rich enough for a KX1 ;-) VOX does not work in the ACC connector and the MIC has an amp that makes it not really ideal for digimodes. Have no clue as to how the K2 mic input behaves, in this respect. Another option is "servo-control": first time I tried gmfsk together with OH2HN, he would hit PTT manually when I shouted "transmit!" 8-) B73, Andrea. -- Homepage: http://andrea.borgia.bo.it / Amateur radio: IZ4FHT _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Ah, if only some of the Linux logging/contesting programs would support
the printing of qsl labels! I haven't run across jlog. Did you mean klog? 73, Bob N7XY On Thu, 2005-04-28 at 09:07 -0300, Chris wrote: > You shouldn't need any special drivers. No I meant Jlog http://jlog.org it's Java based, so runs on any
platform. It's pretty good; about the best that I have found for Linux. 73, Chris - VP8BKF Bob Nielsen wrote: >Ah, if only some of the Linux logging/contesting programs would support >the printing of qsl labels! > >I haven't run across jlog. No idea whether "tlf" (Try Left Foot ;-) can do that as well, as it is the only contest-level logger I know for Linux. I didn't realize that xlog could do that. I mostly use TLF (for general logging as well as contesting), but it doesn't support creating labels AFAIK. 73, Bob N7XY _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
