Ken,
regarding the Rework Eliminator & UNPCBs: Yes, I also found the offer on (www.unpcbs.com) very confusing initially. I had some e-Mails exchanged with Ken & Gary to get a better feeling for it and proposed to try improving the way the information is presented. It's none of those "I quickly buy ..." things. - unfortunately - Probably since they offer the K2 upgrade parts (see below) in bits and pieces just complementing the (K2) options you may have ordered from elecraft. Of course you can just order the complete set. Beside the way it is presented or offerred I still find the overall idea and realization a fantastic thing. I loved the idea from the first moment I've seen it. A short attempt to clarify the things: *** THERE ARE THE "UNPCBs" which are small replacement PCBs for the original K2 options (sold either bare PCB or as kit inc. required parts) ... when .. or better only after Control-Board (KAF2/KDSP2) or the RF-Board (all other plug-in modules) is prepared for the modules. This is the part leading to confusion since every option module requires at least the additional installation of the sockets (plus some times other changes) on/to the respective motherboard. The respective parts will be included in the K2 option kit from elecraft. You won't have these parts for the options you didn't order with your K2 and therefore: *** THERE ARE THE K2 PCB UPGRADE Parts Kits which supply you with those additional parts which go on your K2 motherboards. If you go to http://www.unpcbs.com/ and follow the "PRODUCTS " link there is a clear split: The unpcbs left and the additional K2 part offers right. -- So it basically is as Keith wrote: >Ken - Yes, I found it confusing too but that's because it's confusing! The issue remains confusing until you really understood and separated the above mentioned two offers. - The unpcbs allow you to remove an installed K2 option. (i.e. for repair) - Both together, the unpcbs plus the additional K2 parts (either from the elecrafts option module bags or from "unpcbs.com") plus the freely downloadable "Rework Eliminators Companion Guide" allow building what they call an REWORK FREE K2. That's what I have done. As already said I liked the idea from the very first moment on. And I agree with Keith that the documentation is very good. It takes quite some time to get the instruction manual updated but the documentation doesn't leave you in any doubts what and why ... I've orderd the "Deluxe Edition Users Guide" also since I couldn't figure out what it was. After receiving it I found that I had already downloaded it as a file. Also without it I'd basically would say one doesn't really need it and could save this extra money. And another thing: Support from Garry (on the technical side) as well as Ken (handling / sales) was very good. I was unfortunatly missing some parts in the first shipment which Ken sent then right away so it was still in time for the K2 asesmbly. 73, Joe DF7TH -- "Feel free" mit GMX FreeMail!
