I had the opportunity to have two K2s sit side by side on the lab bench
yesterday and today. It was too good an opportunity to pass up. With just two samples though, there is just not enough data to smooth out the "wrinkles". So if any of you might have the desire to contribute data to this project, the results will be shared with all. Here is what is needed. Test Point/Band 160 80 40 30 20 17 15 12 10 TP1 xxx xxx ___ xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx TP2 xxx xxx ___ xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx TP3 xxx xxx ___ xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx U10-4 xxx xxx ___ xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx U9-6 xxx xxx ___ xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx R5 ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ W6 ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ D1 anode ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ Q5 Case ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ Q6 Base ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ Q6 Collector ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ Q7 Base ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ Q8 Base ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ *********************************************************************** WARNING - skip this step if you are using an rf probe. The voltages present could and would probably damage your probe. (> 10VACrms) Q7/Q8 Collector ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ *********************************************************************** D9 is located in the vicinity of the noise blanker socket, as a matter of fact if you have the noise blanker you will have to remove it to get to D9. voltages present here are < .5VAC D9 anode ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ Please indicate whether your measurements are ACV P-P (with a scope using a 10X probe) or VACrms as with your rf probe. All information will be fed into an Excel spreadsheet that will calculate stage gains, filter insertion loss etc. The more data the smoother the plots will be. It takes about 30 minutes to gather the information. If you don't mind include your serial number. This will help in evaluating the data. I would encourage everyone to gather this data on their K2 whether you pass the information along or not. I wish that I had when I first built the unit. The information would have been invaluable during some recent trouble-shooting. 73s Jim, W4ATK _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
