Tim:
I'm no K2 guru, but what you describe is classic of a poor/intermittent connection somewhere on the way to the antenna. I've experienced this with many radios, going back many decades. The "dit" (transmitting) somehow reestablishes a better connection at the point of failure. This might be at any coax connector (from the back of the radio all the up to the antenna). Try tracing your coax and connections along the way. Open up all contact points and "clean" them up (emery cloth, board, your favorite contact cleaner, etc). At the antenna (and elsewhere too), be sure your connections are not only clean, but tight. I'll leave the suggestions for what to "trace for" inside the K2 up to the K2-masters. de Doug KR2Q _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Maybe, but I experience the same phenom and do the same thing with key, It
hasn't really been an issue, though. Would be interesting to know what does it though, I suspected something to do with the flow of info on data bus. I'd rule out antenna connection in my case because I have seen it on both ants and all bands and power settings. I'd bet a slight tweak on a NB or AGS setting or delay setting may clear it up. Anyone around who knows the system that can explain it? Al and all,
Contrary to your speculation, there is nothing in the control section ('flow of info on data bus') that would cause your problem. The beauty of digital signals is that they either work or they do not work - there is no in between state. Most intermittent problems are due to an unsoldered connection. They can work fine for several years only to raise their ugly heads at the most inappropriate time. The relays rarely fail because they are the type with wiping (self cleaning) contacts - but once in a great while I do find a bad one. The only answer I know is that you must hunt carefully for that elusive bad connection - sometimes it can be narrowed down to a single stage and the rest will be easy, but often that is difficult until you can reliably re-create the failure. Any troubleshooting must be done while it is *not* working properly, and that is why I *hate* intermittents. 73, Don W3FPR [hidden email] wrote: > Maybe, but I experience the same phenom and do the same thing with key, It > hasn't really been an issue, though.
