RE:Morse is far from dead

rflye@juno.com

Thank you lee,
I was cleaning out my closet 2 years ago and contacted a local ham club to donate my gear from 1972 when I was a Novice. I met with a real Elmer and when he took my gear, he told me about the new modes and changes that had happened in 30 years. He had my interest...  then he set the hook. 5 wpm for all classes of license.  Code was the toughest thing I learned and 13 wpm seemed like 130 back then. I am now an Extra, and probably one of those guys that was groused about a couple of days ago with dismal code on 40 meters. I passed my extra about the time I got some gear and I hope that the 20-30 wpm crowd will take the opportunity to slow down and have a QSO with one of us code challenged guys every now and again.  The best practice is when you are working someone better than you. At least you are listening to what good code sounds like and can strive to emulate it.  I doubt that I am alone out here, being an extra that has barely communicated in CW. But my long term goal is to
be good enough to pass a 20 wpm test, just like a real Extra.
Thanks for listening to my story, hope to work some of you on the bands soon.
73,
Bob AD7BP

Operators who enjoy the mode need to be active in the
promotion of CW.  There are a lot of ways to do that
such as:

Get on the air regularly in CW
Join FIST
Teach someone the code
Help them through their first QSOs
Get people interested in QRP
Sharpen your own skills
Contest with CW
Check into a CW Net and pass traffic

I want to be CW proactive....not FCC reactive.

Long live Morse...and it will be around a long time
too.
