I am trying to find a group where CW is not shunned. The two nearby groups treat me like I am a leper when I mention the mode. Often it is the end of any conversation.
I am not sure where the myth of "CW operators are always welcome" got started because it is not true here. I will contact the people in Eugene but it is about three hours away from me due to rivers and mountains. Kevin. They obviously feel threatened by a ham with superior skills. :)
The animosity exhibited even by some old-timers when the topic of CW comes up is amazing to me, especially in the context of contest. Don't they realize that, in most contests, you get more points for CW contacts than for phone contacts? 73! Just keep beating on them. That's what I do here. Eventually, you'll
find some that want to be "real" ham operators. :) 73, Dan KB6NU On Jun 12, 2007, at 10:52 PM, Kevin Rock wrote: > You would not believe how they scatter when I pull a circuit board > transceiver out of my pack :) > 73, > Kevin. I admit it’s been a few years since I’ve been away from home on a FD weekend so maybe things have changed. Has the “no-code” hysteria carried past the elimination of code as a licensing requirement and created a world where CW is no longer ‘politically correct’? I certainly hope not. I checked the rules and FD scoring hasn’t changed, CW contacts are still worth 2 points while phone contacts are only worth 1. It seems to me that any serious FD group would encourage CW. I have to assume that the two groups you contacted are not serious about FD and you’d probably be happier finding a more committed FD operation Steve .. CW contacts are often easier to make. Especially at lower power levels.
