Sounds like in this case - its the responsibility of
the kit vendor, or toroid supplier - to give you the
buyer - smooth, correctly built toroid cores.  I
wouldn't tolerate using cores of any less quality,
than perfect.  Why?

Fred,

This is not a problem with the powdered iron cores, but it is a problem with
ferrite cores - it is an abrasive material and when will have sharp edges,
just the nature of the beast - sort of like the fact that sissors are sharp
and often pointed.  It is a characteristic of the material and not a quality
consideration.
