RTTY N THE K3

KR9A BILL
HI
I KNOW THE K3 SENDS RTTY WITH YOUR CW KEYER.

WHAT DO I DO TO SEND RTTY WHEN I WANT TO USE FLDIGI OR HRD AND A REGULAR KEYBOARD AND A TIGERTRONICS USB MODEM.

I USED AN MFJ KEYBOARD OUT FIT AND THE DITS AND DASHES COMING OUT ON CW WERE ALWAYS INVERTED NO MATER HOW I PROGRAMED THE RADIO TIP AND RING FUNTION. AND NO RTTY CAME OUT AT ALL..... I GUESS I AM GETTING OLD.

 THANK YOU\\

Not quite. The K3 sends RTTY from CW paddles with its own internal keyer
only. It cannot send RTTY from an external CW keyer.

You connect audio cables between the modem's sound card and the K3's
LINE IN and LINE OUT jacks. Your software should be set up to use the
sound card in the modem. Neither the Tigertronics modem nor HRD/DM780
nor Fldigi supports FSK, so you will have to use AFSK. The K3 should be
in either AFSK A or DATA A mode. The K3's MIC gain control controls the
line in level in these modes. Adjust the controls so that the K3's ALC
meter reads 4-5 bars on transmit.

You can't use an external CW keyboard to send RTTY with the K3.
