As the bands get more crowded (I.e. contest) I just tighten down the bandwidth. Of course a wider BW sounds better (especially to these old ears) but sometimes you do what you got to do. Except for the 2.8, I set the BW a little higher: I.e. 2.1 is set for 2.4; 1.8 is set for 2.1; 400 is set for 500; and the 250 is set for 300. All these filters give me the "wiggle room" and the "brick wall" as needed. 73, AE6IC, K3 2241 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Fred,
That is more information than I got from the Archive, so thank you! It confirms my need to add the 1.8 8 pole. I have my K3 in for updating so can't fiddle with it... I don't recall that one can remember the settings for each filter and the bandwidth, so do you handle that via macro? Jim, THank you for the set up suggestion. Will try it once I get my radio
back. When you install the filter you set the "cut in" frequency with the utility. Keep in mind the actual width of the filter vs the "named" frequency, there IS a diffference. There is documentation somewhere or you can measure it, or I can look it up in my notes. I usually set my filters to "cut in" a bit above their actual width. For instance, the 250 filters are really 365 (if I remember correctly, and this is probably the one that is the fartherest off. So I set it to cut in at 400 (good to know the freqs because the 400 is about 435 so you DO NOT need both the 250 and the 400, they are virtually the same). As you narrow the bandwidth via the front panel the radio automatically switches to the next filter as you reach your specified cut in frequency (and the filter currrently in use it displayed on the front panel). You don't have to remember anything or turn it on manually, it is all automatic. I have the 2.7, 1.8 (set to 2.0 cut in), the 500 (set to come on at 550 I think), and the 250 set to come in at 400. I will be buying the 1000 next so I have a bit wider receive when scanning for RTTY or CW, then narrow the bandwidth if needed to work them. GUD luck es 73, de Jim KG0KP ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
