I too am considering the K3 6m pre amp. But I hear most everything called in as DX. I sometimes can't work what I hear so the K3s rx seems fine.
Today from NW TN we had a great Eu opening. The best I've heard. Got 10 new countries in Eu.  this morning.  K3 was flawless.

One of the things to keep in mind is that having a receiver to hot is not always good.  It's kind of like a repeater that has either a hot receiver and low power transmitter or poor receiver and a high power transmitter.  Sometimes called the "Alligator syndrome".

You might be able to hear them but cause QRM to those who are working the DX but can't hear you.

I bought a 20 db preamp for use with my K3.  While it does increase the noise and sometimes signals are more discernable, i can't always get back to them (the DX).  Having the regular internal preamp in the K3 turned on helps to balance out the book.  And i very seldom turn it off especially on 6 unless the stations i'm hearing are loud.  Poor hearing on my part doesn't always help the situation so it can make operation a bit variable at times.
