Re: 70cms Transverter

Simon (HB9DRV)
Hi,

I see from the archives that a 70 cms transverter was proposed two years
ago. Is there any news on this? I would buy the 2m and 70 cms today were
both available. My use would be satellite tracking with the IC-7800 as the
control unit.

Simon,

I am curious; in what way would the IC-7800 function as a control unit
for satellite tracking?

Re: Re: 70cms Transverter

Well the IC-7800 would drive 2m and 70cms transverters, later also a 1.2 GHz
transverter and a 2.4 GHz converter (RX only). As I have the IC-7800 which
is a great radio especially with the panoramic display I want to make more
use of it. When using a Linear transponder such as that on FO-29 or VO-52
(Hamsat) I can see where / if there is any activity.

For satellite tracking everything is controlled via software, the typical
SAT support in the IC-910H, TS-2000 and FT-847 isn't needed if you use a PC
to properly correct for Doppler, in fact it's much better to just use a PC.

And I can also use the IC-7800 for RX only and TX via the IC-703 - many
satellite users use two radios rather than a single transceiver.

Or I could use 2 x K2 :-)
