I checked, and I have a birdie on 147.492 MHz.  It behaves exactly as W6DAS describes.  It doesn't show on the S-meter display of my TS-2000, but it gives plenty of audio output.

I assembled my K3 in Jan 2014.  The serial number is 7961.
