I am successfully running CW Skimmer in Compatibility mode Windows XP SP 3.
Right click on cwskimmer.exe, select Properties and then under Compatibility, check the box and select the mode. I tried installing CW Skimmer on a Win 7 Professional (64-bit) laptop
but was unsuccessful. It popped up a window complaining about being unable to write to the registry near the end of the install. I got a similar popup when I tried to run it. If I were to persevere, who knows? But I didn't. I had the same problem few days back when I tried installing it on a
laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). I think the problem was not with CW Skimmer but with OmniRig instead which comes bundled with Skimmer. At the end of installation it failed to access two registry keys due to its permissions being too restrictive. You could use Sysinternal's Process monitor and filter by the name of the installer utility and "ACCESS DENIED" while running the install of the OmniRig and it will find two registry keys in question. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx 73, Nick ve3ey On 8/25/2010 12:29 AM, Jim Campbell wrote: > I tried installing CW Skimmer on a Win 7 Professional (64-bit) laptop > but was unsuccessful. Nick,
I installed CW Skimmer again (as administrator) and got the same errors. You were correct that it was OmniRig giving the error. In any event it is now installed. As an aside, what is OmniRig for? OmniRig is a program for sharing the radio with more than one program such
as CWskimmer and a logging program. Only a few logging programs have the capability however. I use LP-Bridge to share CWskimmer, Logger32 and Powersdr. The skimmer guy, Alex, has other programs that work with OmniRig. Sorry, but this is not correct - Omnirig is a rig-control program that
VE3NEA uses in all situations where it is his software needs to be able to control a transceiver's frequency. You need other hardware or software (such as LP-Bridge) to enable more than one program to talk to your radio's RS-232 port. There is a freeware solution (VSPE by Eterlogic) that some people have reported to work satisfactorily with Skimmer and various logging programs. Some Microham interfaces have hardware/firmware permitting assignment of two virtual serial ports to each radio - I had an MK2R+ and it seemed to work very well. 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 On 8/25/2010 5:47 PM, Steve Ellington wrote: > OmniRig is a program for sharing the radio with more than one program such > as CWskimmer and a logging program.
