If anyone in EU decides to make a group buy of some CM500 headphones,
please let me know, I am interested in buying one. I already have one for my K3 but another one would be welcome! They look to be virtually the same headset.
Visually, the earcups and headband are identical. The mic boom looks to be physically slightly different. And the Koss has single side cable, vs dual on CM500. The CM500 I have has "Koss" molded on the 3.5mm connectors. From website specs, the Koss has lower impedance (100 vs 120) and slightly better sensitivity. My bet is that the Koss would be a slight improvement on the CM500. I have both the Koss and Yamaha headsets. I prefer the fit of the CM-500,
but overall the two are more or less functionally equivalent. -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Jim Brown Sent: Tuesday, April 09, 2013 12:33 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Cheap headphones On 4/9/2013 9:24 AM, Michael Usher AG6MK wrote: > My bet is that the Koss would be a slight improvement on the CM500. I just got a CM500 yesterday for testing and would say the MIC is quite
sensitive..only takes a MIC setting of 4-6 and its fine...increasing MIC gain apparently does nothing but increase feedback. I guess these powered headset are different than the usual Heil Pro line as one can move the MIC gain up and down for a Heil and watch the ALC go higher or lower. The K3 ALC using the CM500 (at least here) remains constantly at about 6-7 bars (compression set at about 10-12 for best overall performance so far) The ear cover is complete not like my Heil Pro I also like the strap across the head. The Heil has some cushion over some type of strap that after a while it's noticeable. The CM500 has a net like strap that is not hard, also allows air to move so no apparent sweat build up after a 5 hour stint in 95 degree weather. Took a lot of antivox and TX gate to quiet the feedback down during RX modes ( I may have to take a footswitch for a multi op site) Settings were : MIC rpl, impedance L (tap 1) , bias on (tap 2) A nice 9 foot long card, plugs right in to rear panel, no adapters needed (less to fail when on the road) , makes things easy when traveling with the K3. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Usher AG6MK" <[hidden email]> To: "Fabio IZ4AFW / NZ1W" <[hidden email]> Cc: "Tom Boucher" <[hidden email]>; "Elecraft reflector" <[hidden email]> Sent: Tuesday, April 09, 2013 9:24 AM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Cheap headphones They look to be virtually the same headset. Try setting the K3's mic gain menu setting to 'low'.
