All of my suppliers (CPC, Farnell, SEME, Chas Hyde and others) still stock it with no indication they are going to stop stocking it in the foreseeable future. I have yet to encounter any equipment soldered with leadfree in my servicing business although I guess some of the newer stuff does. Plenty of reels of leaded solder in my stock cupboard and I have not seen yet any need to buy any lead free yet at four times the price. Leadfree cynic.. 73 Dave G3YMC http://www.davesergeant.com _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Here's > a page with a real ticking clock! > http://www.rohs.info/ If you read that site you will find that equipment put on the market before July next year and rework of that equipment is exempt from the legislation. There is some suggestion that lead free solder can be used for repair of older equipment, but there is confusion on this point. The vast majority of service work I do will be on equipment in this category. The list of exemptions seems to be growing longer by the day. It may well be that by next year virtually everything will be exempt.... And to answer the original question, it is certainly OK to solder Elecraft kits bought before next July with common 60/40 lead/tin solder. Sorry for the off thread posting. 73 Dave G3YMC http://www.davesergeant.com _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I wonder if the boards themselves are tinned with lead? Then, the Aptos boys
might have to do something before next year to be legal for British resale. It's not the British... It's European legislation being forced upon us
and as the US seems to be going that way as well, it'll be a requirement worldwide.
