I think I agree, here in a very built up area, I have an S9 noise floor that
I can do little about except move. And moving isn't an option right now (maybe in 10 years when I retire, Hi). Unfortunately, putting something bigger up in the way of an antenna is probably not an option either (I have a high long wire, 6m halo, 2m halo & 6m/2m/70cm vertical). Running much more that 100W would probably be a problem for my neighbours too (with who I have good relations at present). So a good Rx is my best option - I've got one on order, it's called a K3 :-) On 11/5/07 09:05, "[hidden email]" <[hidden email]> sent: > > Money spent on an improved antenna system > would far outweigh money spent on extra power, > especially at the 3dB increase level. -- Hofstadter's Law: The time and effort required to complete a project are always more than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law. _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi David
Just out of curiousity, have you experimented with receiving loops at all? On 160m, I pretty much have to receive on a loop, as my vertical is very noisy in this neighborhood. There is a tremendous wealth of info about loop antennas on the web. I have three loops. One tuned loop for 160m on a cheap Radio Shack TV rotator, an untuned loop that can be swapped with the tuned one for use on 80 and 40, and a fixed Flag loop which is aimed at New York. Info on the Flag loop can be found at http://www.angelfire.com/md/k3ky/page37.html Good luck and 73 Bob N6WG ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Ferrington" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Friday, May 11, 2007 3:09 AM Subject: [Elecraft] Re: Elecraft Digest, Vol 37, Issue 22 > I think I agree, here in a very built up area, I have an S9 noise floor that > I can do little about except move.
