Well, he was sending it out of the UK, the government are happy to see
knives leaving the UK, just not coming it!

But seriously, there are limits. A 3 inch pocket knife with a folding blade
that doesn't lock would probably be ok, especially on a member of the Scout
Association (I'm a Scout leader). But even then, in some places this would
be unacceptable.
Blades that 'flick' or 'lock' are a definite no-no.

As for guns, a few years ago, they made holding guns (as in
storage/display/target) very difficult, so difficult it drove our Olympic
firearms contesters out and they now practice in France (afaik). It didn't
of course stop the black market in guns (far from it) and there are as many,
if not more, firearms on the streets, in the hands of criminals and 15 year
old kids, than there ever were.

But that flies in the face of logic....all the folks here in the know can tell
you that all guns are evil, and we simply need to make it impossible for
law-abiding citizens to own them.

These very same folks point to your country as an example of how well gun
control works...are you telling us otherwise?

But then again, it is kinda QRP related...Less is More.

Re: Gun control - [OT] off-topic

M0XDF
Firstly, let me say these are of course my opinions and may not represent
those of my fellow countrymen, and may be completely wrong too!

Its relative, we have far less guns in the UK than you do in the US, so the
original gun control here has meant less guns and less gun crime (knife
crime by young teenagers is becoming a problem). But it's rising and since
the govt. introduced stricter controls a few years ago, it hasn't stopped
it. It has made life difficult for the legitimate users, like competitors.

What I think has made a difference over in the US and isn't being used here
is the zero tolerance and 3 strikes and you're out policy.

And since this is now a way off-topic post, I suggest we don't upset people
by continuing here.
