My two cents on the mic.
I used another rx, not the monitor to set it up. The audio setup did not
come easy. It took quite a few hours of xmitting one watt on ten meters at
night and listening on the other rx as I adjusted, and then putting the
settings to work the next day in QSOs...and then back to ten meters, several
cycles.
Mic is a Heil Quiet phone with the Heil 4 cartridge, I do it in a unique
situation. My mic is first fed into an old Nel-tech DVK with a processor
built in. I feed that into the K-3. Mic gain set to 6, compression to 25.
Tx audio shaped to in order from 1-8.....1+16, 2+16, 3+12, 4-2, 5-4, 6+2,
7-13, 8, 0.
Several guys I have spoken to using the K3 have never bothered to even
mess with the tx equalization. IMHO, it is one of the most important audio
adjustments. My voice is somewhat bassey and for contesting and DXing that
is a negative. However, the "dual compression" and the Heil 4 cartridge
bring out a bunch of highs, so that balances it off.
By the way, tons of unsolicited, very positve comments (perfect audio,
etc.) Once in a greatwhile I get "crappy" audio, but the ratio of unsolicted
good to bad is about 20:1.
