"Stroke" can mean many things. Stroke of a hydraulic piston. Stroke of
an engine piston. Stroke as in medical condition. Stroke as in pull on
the oars in a boat. Stroke of a pencil. English is obfuscatory.

Stroke has been used on the bands for as long as I've been a ham which
is many years. Anyone who calls you on it is him(her)self the idiot. As
you know in English "stroke" is but one syllable. Portable is three
(Port--a--ble), wasting lots of your time and effort to pronounce it.
And adds absolutely nothing to intelligibility. Please....continue to
sign OZ Stroke PD2R.

Re: signing stroke - getting OT now

I would sign portable (or mobile) if I was and I wouldn't say "stroke portable", but if I was F/M0XDF, I would sign "foxtrot stroke mike zero xray delta foxtrot"  or more likely "fox stroke mike zero xray delta fox"
