Does anyone please have an RS/Farnell/Maplin part no for a replacement K3 front headphone socket? Maplin will only have one choice that is even vaguely like it, so getting the Maplin number for the only candidate should be easy. Have you asked Elecraft to quote? They may well come out cheaper when you consider the small order charges for Farnell and RS. I imagine they will send something like that, in a small jiffy bag, using the normal postal service. If you have to use a UK source, have you considered Rapid? They are more consumer purchase friendly than RS/Farnell, and they have not gone the way of Maplin of becoming a high street boys' toys merchant. By the way, you have replied to the digest as a whole, and you have used a reply to start a new thread. -- David Woolley "we do not overly restrict the subject matter on the list, and we encourage postings on a wide range of amateur radio related topics" List Guidelines <http://www.elecraft.com/elecraft_list_guidelines.htm> ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
You might also consider CPC in Preston

They used to be 'trade only' but are now a mainline consumer outlet advertising on TV, and with much larger stocks than Maplin. (CPC's ready-made connecting leads are very good value and are available with a wide range of connectors at either end. I often buy extra-long leads at very little extra cost, and cut them in two.) Farnell have by far the biggest stocks of RF-related parts and are also very easy to deal with. Amateurs can register for online shopping using the 'other' options on the drop-down lists, and receive the same good service as commercial customers <https://uk.farnell.com/jsp/profile/register.jsp> Although Farnell and CPC are owned by the same company, they are two completely different operations, each with its own customer base, product range and catalogue. The same group also owns Newark in the USA, and the Farnell catalogue offers a pipeline into the Newark inventory as well (there is normally a surcharge, but watch out for special offers). RS, on the other hand, have never been comfortable with private customers. It still isn't possible for a private individual to register without being forced to tell lies. -- 73 from Ian GM3SEK http:// ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
I can't help with identifying distribution channels, but Neutrik, an
excellent connector manufacturer based in Liechtenstein, makes both male and female cable-mount 1/8-inch connectors of decent quality that can be purchased through audio distributors in the US. Perhaps there is something comparable in the UK. If you were in the US, I would send you to a Full Compass, a vendor in Madison, WI who I buy from via the internet. It's a family-owned company, and I know the family -- I used to compete with them many years ago when I sold pro audio to broadcasters. :) Neutrik and Switchcraft are the major manufacturers of high quality audio connectors in the world. They also make parts to mount on printed circuit boards. See the section on audio in my RFI tutorial for Neutrik part numbers. They're also near the end of the Power Point pdf on Ham Interfacing. 73, Jim Brown K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

All the UK companies I recommended this morning - CPC, Farnell and Rapid - sell a wide range of connectors from both companies. -- 73 from Ian GM3SEK http://www.ifwtech.co.uk/g3sek ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

My own suspicion is that those adverts are targetted at a certain sort of small business. They tend to do things like only sell cable by the drum, which is not particularly friendly to real consumers. > > Farnell have by far the biggest stocks of RF-related parts and are also > very easy to deal with. I suspect their marketing people welcome others, but their operations people are afraid of people exercising consumer rights, and I suspect anyone who did would risk losing their account. > service as commercial customers > <https://uk.farnell.com/jsp/profile/register.jsp> Rapid are also a cable by the drum company, but their main market sector seems to be schools, so I think they consider hobbyists part of the educational market. They did hand out old catalogues at a rally once. > > RS, on the other hand, have never been comfortable with private > customers. They've never cottoned on to the idea that today's teenage hobbyists are tomorrow's electronic design engineers. At one time, the used to mark their catalogue as being strictly confidential. They did, however, run a consumer catalogue, Doram, I think, for a short time. -- David Woolley "we do not overly restrict the subject matter on the list, and we encourage postings on a wide range of amateur radio related topics" List Guidelines <http://www.elecraft.com/elecraft_list_guidelines.htm> ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
