Don,
See if this narrows down the problem correctly.
Voltage readings at: J3 = 12.6 Volts Input from
battery, and voltage regulators read 4.94v. from
U5(L78M05CV) & 8.0v. from U4 (LM2930T8). Pin 32 of
U6, of control board reads same as U4(8.0v.). The
4-MHz
oscillator signal is detected by a G5 receiver with no
difficulty. Relays activate when K2 is turned on and
no option boards or Rework Eliminators or plugged in.
Voltage at Pin 1 of U1 of RF board reads 5.98v. and
Pin 28 reads 5.425v. BTW, all readings are taken with
a Velleman DVM850BL digital meter (no oscilloscope).
When pressing the BAND+ button while reading Pin 28 of
the IOC(RF board) as well as when reading Pin 40 of
the MCU (Control board), there is no apparent drop in
voltage temporarily to below 5.0v.(no change at all).
Can it be assumed at this early stage of "ALIGNMENT
AND TEST, Part 1" that MCU is not functioning, or is
there more to eliminate before trying to locate
another. BTW, can the MCU be located in a computer
supply store, like Fry's or Micro Center?
