FWIW, I use two K2/100s in my SO2R contest station. I use TRlog contest
software. TRlog has a command called EXCHANGERADIOS that immediately swaps the frequencies in the two rigs (i.e. frequency on rig A replaces freq on rig B and vice-versa). I find this useful if I'm tuning on one band while CQing on the other and then decide to start CQing on the opposite band. Even though I've got my station set up to have either rig as the "prime" rig, I prefer my left rig as my run rig. I've also used my two K2s to tune on the same band as I'm CQing. This requires a separate antenna as far away from my transmitting antenna as possible. I use an old vertical for same band tuning. It isn't the greatest antenna, but that is OK since I have the ability to quickly swap frequencies with the EXCHANGERADIOS command. I can realistically get within 15 KHz of my transmitted signal without too much of a problem copying stations. My same band vertical is only 100 feet from my transmitting quads because that is all the room I have. I could never have done this with my old IC-765s. The K2s are THAT good at close in rejection! There is also a SWAPRADIOS command that swaps the key, mic, headphones and logged frequency to the other radio. The swapping is controlled by a pin in the parallel port changing state. That pin can be use with Top-Ten Devices DXDoubler, your own interface (as I use) or several other manufacturers SO2R boxes. The downside to TRlog for some people is that TRlog is a DOS program and probably will never be ported over to Windows, but it handles all the packet interfacing, rig interfacing and contest logging I will ever use. Is there any logging and or control software out there for Linux OS?

I use Xlog http://pg4i.mattsnetwork.co.uk/linux/xlog.html for everyday logging and Tlf http://home.iae.nl/users/reinc/TLF-0.2.html for contest. Then, there is also Klog http://jaime.robles.nu/klog/eindex.html but I don't know much about that one. These logging programa can interface to your radio using the Ham Radio Control Libraries http://hamlib.sf.net/ which supports most known and unknown computer controllable radios out there. On the hamlib page you will find links to many other GUI programs, which use hamlib. If you are only interested in the K2, you should have a look at Marote http://www.hamsoftware.org/ 73 Alex OZ9AEC _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I second that recommendation. I have been using TLF with both my K2
and my TS-570 for general logging as well as contests for several years. I use also use xlog, but so far only in conjunction with gmfsk for logging digital modes. I'm going to switch to xlog for all non-contest logging, since it supports the printing of QSL labels. 73, Bob N7XY On Nov 25, 2005, at 5:04 PM, Alexandru Csete wrote: > Hi Bill, > > On 11/26/05, Bill Harris <[hidden email]> wrote: >> Is there any logging and or control software out there for Linux OS? > > I use Xlog http://pg4i.mattsnetwork.co.uk/linux/xlog.html for everyday > logging and > Tlf http://home.iae.nl/users/reinc/TLF-0.2.html for contest. >> Alex OZ9AEC Hello Alex, Two things to tell you that may apply and help. One, you won't need Hamlib for the Marote and Xlog combination. Marote sends QSO info directly into Xlog. Second, if you happen to use SuSE, they put qmake in a place outside the usual path. You'll have do use Konqueror's Find command to get qmake's path and then execute the one-time command to make Marote on your system, after that you can just type in marote and it starts. 73, Terry W9TRB _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Bit of a ramble]
I am currently wondering exactly what to do on the K2 front - I may buy the IC-7000 because it has 2m and 70cms and can be taken out portable (with a decent battery), also some of my portable locations have 220 volts available and there are some very small switch-mode power supplies available. The IC-7000 would solve quite a few problems in one easy-to-shift package - want to get out on 2m, 70cms as well as HF. Not being able to adjust the K2 TX frequency via CAT control makes the K2 + transverter option unrealistic for satellite use, this would have been my main use for the K2. The IC-7000 can be adjusted while in transmit. The IC-7000 downside is RX current drain (1.2A), but solar cells can compensate for this. Cost-wise it's much cheaper than the K2 + options + transverters, but obviously the K2 is a different beast. And I have the KX-1 / K1 / T1 combination anyway. On the satellite side I am really waiting for the P3E satellite and may stick to the 1.3 / 2.4 (and higher) GHz side of things anyway as I'm sure the 2m / 70cms transponder will be pretty full. What I think will happen is that I'll become familiar with the K1 first, then try a side-by-side comparison with the K2 while out portable. I see the K2 purchase being put back a year or maybe two - we'll just have to see. Maybe a visit to FDIM in 2006 is needed to help make the decision - if finances and US passport requirements permit.
