Re: K2 output power and external amps.

Hi Bill,

I just went though this last week with my K2/100 driving a SB200.   I was able to minimize this
(but not eliminate it) by increasing R99 (on BOTTOM of main board...I spent about a half hour
looking for it on the top!) .

See this tech tip:

http://www.elecraft.com/Apps/Power_Control_Mod.html

I put a trimpot on mine, to temporarily seek the right value (replaced with fixed resistor
after experimentation)  and I ended up with something like 680 ohms as I recall. It didn't
eliminate the issue...and indeed it appears on mine not to be POSSIBLE to eliminate it, but
it's better, and I am able to tune the SB200 without much trouble.

The K2/100 and the SB-200 make a fine DXing  station!!

Yes, I dispensed with the trimpot and went directly to 1 K for R98.
This has made the shifts considerably smaller, but they are still
bothersome.

I'm going to try a larger value, such as 1.5 or 2 k next time I have
the K2 apart. I made need to make some changes to T1 and T2 in order
to avoid decreasing the overall TX gain.
