The problem is solved here. Apparently the Elecraft K3 Utility itself
was corrupted. I deleted and replaced this, downloaded the latest
firmware again, and everything loaded as it should.
Thanks to everyone for your input (now I am knowledgeable to be able
to help someone else with this kind of problem).

This is not a cabling issue, and no procedure listed in the manual
works. I cannot get the radio to come on at all except to get the
flashing red TX LED and the unbacklighted "MCU LD" ..........
