The problem was a mixture of two versions of mixw.
Now the only thing I still have to get working is the PTT so ESC key will toggle between TX and RX,  I have it set up in the cat interface, but so far its not working.  Now I think I may have to change something in the K3 PTT config items.

I used to use MixW and I don't remember using the Esc key to toggle between TX and RX. If the K3 goes into TX when you click the TX button then there is nothing wrong with the way PTT is set up. If it is not allowing Esc to be used as a toggle between TX and RX it is probably Vista that is preventing it.

MixW can be set up to use software commands to switch between TX and RX. Alternatively it can use one of the serial control lines (RTS and DTR). The two methods are mutually exclusive. Only if you have selected one of the latter options will you need to set the matching option in the K3 PTT menu.
