Since it was suggested that this hiss is band noise, I tried it with no coax connected to the K3. Same result.
This may indeed have something to do with a flat response as suggested. I've often wondered if other manufacturers roll this high end off. I think it's somewhere around 3500hz. At least my external eq slider for 3500 takes it out. I suppose this may be natural and I've been spoiled to not hearing it before getting the K3. No plans to sell it. I just deal with it. I have played around with what benefit is this high end anyway and have thus far discovered it helps with female voices and with Austrailia and New Zealand. I've found for them that high cut of 2700 brings out more clarity. That's a width of 2.5. A little bit of hiss there but not too bad. 73 Mike R ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Mike.
Look at the post to the Elecraft reflector by W4TV Joe Subich two days ago. If you want to emulate the audio response of other transceivers, use the RX EQ as he describes and you can have either a 3dB of 6 dB rolloff in audio response. The K3 audio response is quite flat out to 4.2 kHz. 73, Don W3FPR On 7/22/2013 10:50 PM, [hidden email] wrote: > Since it was suggested that this hiss is band noise, I tried it with no coax connected to the K3.
