Going over the KX-1 manual, it calls for  aligning first the BFO and then the
DDS by dialing in a strong carrier  (WWV, etc) and then using the BFO or DDS
menus. Can someone suggest some  alternate alignment methods?  I have a
calibrated freq counter and  service monitor.

I've been around the block once or twice, but don't think I  ever ran into a
"service monitor".  What is a service monitor? Maybe I know  it under a
different name?

Bill:

A service monitor is a piece of test equipment that contains a calibrated
frequency generator calibrated output in both frequency and amplitude, a
frequency meter for measring and setting an oscillator ot the correct
frequency and usually a deviation and amplitude modulation meter.  Some even
contain a spectrum analyzer and wattmeter in them.  It is an all in one
service instrument used in the two way radio service shops.

When I worked for a power company in the 1980's, the radio service
techs just called it a "Cushman".  Like this one:

Even when other manufacturers got in the game, the guys still called
them Cushmans.

Keep clam,
Terry

When I was akid, every refrigerator was known as a Kelvinator....and we all know
that every paper company makes Kleenix.
