I installed the P3SVGA board in my unit yesterday. On mine, it also does not display properly in 1920x1080. I have an Acer H243H monitor. It natively supports "Full HD", 1920x1080p. When I set the P3 SVGA output to 1920x1080, the monitor confirms that it has switched to that resolution. However, the P3 image appears to extend off the right of the screen. That is to say, the full span to the right is not displayed. The vertical span is fine. There also appear to be small white dots moving horizontally through the spectrum portion of the display, as if the display is "wrapping" somehow. (This is no doubt an inaccurate description, but the best I can do. I have tried reloading all firmware (1.12) and FPGA files to no effect. Note that the monitor displays my PCs output at 1920x1080 using the DVI (rather than VGA) input with no problems, so I know the monitor is capable. For now, I am running at 1440x900 from the P3 with no problems. 73, Bruce, N1RX > 1080 overflows my 1080P monitor also. <snip> > Rick > K6LE ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Hi,
I would suggest checking your monitors settings to make sure it is not in a "full" compatibility mode (the names seem to change. It might be different for your monitor). That is, the monitor can expand a 4x3 image to fit the 16x9 HD image vertically and thus chop off parts of the image on the sides and eliminate the "black bar" problem. Thanks, Byron, but I have already done this. No joy. The 1920x1080 is a 16:9
mode, so no cropping or stretching should be applied by the monitor. -Bruce, N1RX -----Original Message----- From: Byron Servies [mailto:[hidden email]] Sent: Thursday, March 22, 2012 6:22 PM To: Bruce Beford Cc: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] P3SVGA 1920x1080 Hi, I would suggest checking your monitors settings to make sure it is not in a "full" compatibility mode (the names seem to change. Hi Bruce, I have the same problem with my monitor and its brand new 1080P HD. I am also having to use the 1440 x 900.
So I guess this will have to do until they update the software. Last time I had a problem like that, it was the monitor, and it needed
to "calibrate" or something like that. It was one of the monitor menu items. Ran whatever that was on the monitor and all was cool. 73, Guy. I have been unable to get my P3SVGA working at full resolution (1920x1080)
on my Acer H243H monitor. For now, I am running at 1440x900. The Acer H243H monitor does support 1920x1080, from both the DVI and SVGA inputs. I have used my HP dv7 laptop to drive the SVGA input at 1920x1080. It displays properly, and the monitor reports the following: 1920x1080 H: 67 KHz V: 60 Hz When I try to use the P3SVGA at the same resolution, the display appears to extend off the right side of the monitor, showing an incomplete spectrum. The monitor reports: 1920x1080 H: 66 KHz V: 58 Hz So, this monitor will work at 1920x1080 with one source, but not the P3SVGA at this (odd) scan rate(?) Hopefully, this can be resolved with an FPGA file update. I would like to hear from other P3SVGA users who are successfully using 1920x1080 resolution. I would like to know the monitor make/model, and what the monitor reports for horizontal and vertical scan rates. This is usually accessible from the monitor's menu. 73, Bruce, N1RX ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Hi Bruce,
Although not a direct answer to your question I would like to indicate that on my 17" monitor I have noted in the monitor information box that the P3SVGA is operating at 1280x1024@58Hz and the monitor indicates that optimum is 1280x1024@60Hz. (It only reports a single scan rate). I can also report that I am not experiencing any reduction in overall size. The display width on the monitor is identical to the display width on the P3. My monitor is a Dell 1702FP. 73, Mike K2MK

I just noticed this thread. I started another with exactly the same problem...1920x1080x58 extends off the right of the screen at least by 3 or 4 inches.

We're investigating this problem with the SVGA on some customers' monitors in the 1920x1080 resolution. For example my Acer P236H monitor has no problem syncing to the SVGA's video signal. We'll let you know as soon as we have a solution.

Same issues with a Samsung S22A100N monitor, 1280 x 1024 works fine.

My P3 SVGA adapter is displaying correctly at 1920x1080 on my HP w2338h monitor.
