Your observations don't agree with the experiences of others at all,
so I suspect there is a fault somewhere in your K2, possibly in the
preamp itself.
On my K2 I use a fairly low long wire, so it is probably well down on
your resonant antenna. With the preamp in there is the odd intermod
product carrier from the broadcast stations on 40m at night but
hardly noticeable and certainly they don't cause any problems. But I
very rarely use the preamp, it is certainly not needed on 40m and the
lower bands, and only occasionally on 10m and 12m when I am trying to
copy weak signals. I am surprised you need it when you have a good
resonant antenna.
