I too have hearing problems. I find the audio produced by the stock K2
lacking. I built up an external speaker and amplifier using an Elecraft
EC2 enclosure,
what a difference!
I used one of Tom N0SS's TDA2003V 5W AF Amplifiers. Two of the Elecraft
speakers part # 99995 wired in parallel are placed side by side on a piece
of PC board 7 & 9/16" x  mounted verticlly about 2" behind the front of
the case. A 5" x 2" rectangular hole is cut into the front panel and is
filled with perforated sheet metal.
A filler panel 7 & 9/16" x 2 & 13/16" is made from another PC board and
mounted verticlly about 2 & 3/4" ahead of the rear panels of the case.
The area behind the speakers is filled with fibreglass insulation.
The amplifier board is mounted at the bottom of the case at the rear and
input and power plugs are mounted on the rear panel.
Try it you'll like it.

I have so much audio gain on my stock K2, that the volume control is
usually in the awkward first 10 degrees of rotation. I do have the
external "Sounds Sweet" speaker, which is very efficient, but even when
I take the K2 on the road, its internal speaker can more than fill the
room. You do have to set the radio up properly.
