Re: Temperature Senors K3/10

Larry Putman
I had asked this a while back and never received a reply so I thought I would try again:)
Does the K3/10 have a temperature sensor like the K3/100?

Thanks

Nope, I believe the only other sensor is the one in the front panel,
to keep track of the master oscillator temperature.  I imagine they
determined that the 10 watt PA had adequate dissipation through the
bottom cover and wouldn't get hot enough to need to be throttled back.
I noticed that it does get warm of course, but I've never caught it
when it was too hot.  If you like to run RTTY at ten watts you might
want to reach underneath and be sure it's okay.

I asked a couple of weeks ago (and never got a reply) what the key-down rating for the K3/10 is. I know it's 10 minutes at 100W for the K3/100, but the 10W PA doesn't necessarily have to be developing full power at 100W out, so it seems incorrect to just assume that 10W is okay.

I never liked to use more than 5W out of my K2/10 for continuous duty modes as even at that power it got pretty warm underneath after 3 or 4 minutes, and the K3 doesn't seem to be much different in that department. With the FM capability it would be nice to be confident what power level is OK.
