The way I accomplish that operation is just connect a simple SPDT toggle
switch between the Ground and PTT line of the DIN connector on the rear
panel.  Or you could use  a push button switch. I use the internal keyer to
send CW; the best I could do with that is to either use the dit side of the
paddle at a high WPM or the day side.
