Re: Would anyone like to see an all-mode VHF/UHF ??? offering from Elecraft?

Edward R Cole
I've already made a suggestion on this topic, but here it is again:

But let me reply in general that a 6m-23cm (50-1296 MHz) all-mode
radio would be desirable in
100w output on the two lower bands and 50w on the rest.  NO need for
lead weights once the heat sink is installed.  It will be lots bigger
than the K3 by necessity.

Important operating specs to meet:  High dynamic range input, low
phase noise, extremely good freq. stability (<10-Hz drift), built-in
sequencer for control of external preamps and amps, RS232 and
soundcard I/F like the K3 plus digital IQ interface for running
computer-based sw (this would be a SDR, right?).

my suggestion:
Buy a K3/10 - has almost all the above requirements by adding options
(exception no direct digital IQ access).
Design a line of transverters with 50-MHz IF to work like the KX3
will with its 2M module.  10-20w is fine (smaller/lighter).
Design a multi-module enclosure to take up to four of these
transverters, and include a sequencer inside it to handle control
with up to four bands of accessories; transverter modules would use a
edge connector plus coax output...plug -in like computer cards.
The transverter enclosure could be of size to match the
K3.  Portability is almost as easy as a single box radio.

If you want more power buy external linear amps.

Note: the 50-54 MHz IF will result in full band coverage of 144 and
222 bands; 432-436, 436-440, 1292-1296, 1296-1300.  LO's all would be
programmable synth PLL with opt. ext reference input on 10-MHz (this
is already available from other venders; I am currently using them in
two of my transverters).

OK that is my vision.

I basically already have this in my station by use of external
transverters with the K3/10.

oops, sorry

Just responding to the elecraft digest today where there were several
posts on this topic.  Now I can't find that digest?  I thought it
strange that someone started up the topic, again.  Chalk it up to a
computer burp that an old digest was added as a new one, today.
